QUEUE MARKETING LINGO!
We have introduced a new comiXology iPhone and iPad Comics App and are retiring the old one. iPhone and iPad users will now buy comics on comixology.com and download to the app. All your purchased books will be readable in the new app once you’ve downloaded it and taken the following steps…
And there are some steps, all of which take you out of the app and to boredomville. You get to setup another account, and sync your purchases, among other things.
FUN!
A fellow tumblr gets it right:
It’s funny, I read a lot of the comments and the only ones that are remotely close to positive are from people who say this will keep them from making too many impulse purchases.
Somehow I think “universally hated except by people who are glad they will now spend less money” is… not an ideal reaction for an app redesign.
I couldn’t agree more.
Encouraging thriftiness can’t exude confidence from publishers and artists when fans hate it. Who real in their right-fucking-mind thinks this is good for anyone but Amazon?
I can imagine Amazon’s collective reaction to internet outcry:
snide voice ~ Well, if it flops, there’s no competition in dead markets.
Impulse buys are what makes discovery and curating a collection fun. Lots of stuff I enjoy, I’ve bought on a whim and had to gain an appreciation of…music, literature, cinema, art.
If you kill that short lived joy before it’s born, what was the point of the buy? There’s no love to begin with, no risk. How many enjoy consumption just for the sake of?
Media is now intertwined with our memories, and our lives. How it (entertainment) becomes a part of that life is important.
I guess what galls me the most, is that Amazon killed physical shopping which was already limping around waiting, nursing its wounds from the wrath of Walmart. Now it’s after digital.
In a way, Amazon is worse than Walmart. We all hate running to the store for bullshit, but it’s bullshit to hate going to the store for something you love.
